It may be a new day at the Washington Commanders’ camp, but past deeds do not wither away in an instant. While the news of the franchise switching hands has yet to sink in, controversies surrounding the previous regime still haunt them. Former Commanders (previously Redskins) head coach Jay Gruden has spilled some inside news about past owner Dan Snyder.

Gruden was part of the Commanders set-up from 2014 to 2019. Being the head coach, he had a say in selecting or scouting players in the draft or through free agency. But he claims that Snyder did not bother doing any kind of background check on the players they would sign.

“Made it too much about himself,” Gruden revealed in the Kevin Sheehan Show via USA TODAY, and continued, “He (Snyder) wasn’t experienced enough in the business to make those decisions.” Gruden also claimed that Snyder did not put in the effort that an owner should. “For [him] to pick a player in the draft is asinine.”

The former owner did not even participate in the meetings and also refrained from watching the scouting videos. “It makes no sense when we (the coaching team) and the scouts are doing all of the film work,” Gruden argued. The worst part, according to him, is that Snyder would make the decision himself without a second opinion.

Dan Snyder’s reign as the Washington Commanders owner is memorable for all the wrong reasons. They had the 27th-best winning percentage in the NFL with just .427. The Commanders managed to reach the playoffs only six times and win twice.

Josh Harris and his partners are now the new owners of the franchise after they spent an NFL record $6 billion. Harris vowed to deliver a championship-quality team for the Capital city.

While Dan Snyder may have sold the Washington Commanders, he can’t just run away from an allegation as serious as sexual harassment. Recently, league commissioner Roger Goodell released a report by attorney Mary Jo White that covered the case of former team employee Tiffani Johnston.

“The conduct substantiated in Ms. White’s findings has no place in the NFL,” Goodell told the New York Post. “We strive for a safe, respectful, and professional workplace. What Ms. Johnston experienced is inappropriate and contrary to the NFL’s values.”

Moreover, after a 17-month-long investigation, attorney Mary Jo White came to the conclusion that the league has substantial evidence against the Commanders. They were allegedly withholding $11 million in revenue from other NFL franchises.
