Almost a decade has passed since the San Francisco 49ers and Jim Harbaugh parted ways. In 2011, Jim Harbaugh took charge of the Niners. The HC delivered success in his first three seasons when he took the team to consecutive playoffs. In addition, he provided the team with an NFC Championship and also took the Niners to the Super Bowl. However, the team lost in that Super Bowl game.
Ten years down the line, the Niners CEO Jed York spoke highly of the former HC. In an interview with the Athletic, the CEO noted that he wished the HC for his success in the second chapter that he is going to start in the coming season. He also congratulated the coach for winning the championship with Michigan.
York said on ‘The TK Show:’
I congratulated them when they [Michigan] won the championship game. We’ve texted back and forth. I think Jim is a helluva coach. I think it’s a great spot for him. I’m excited for the Chargers. I think they will be very, very successful.Jed York said
The CEO believed that the head coach would lead the Chargers to a successful path. The Chargers did not have a great season. A new coach is expected to turn the tables for them.
York went on to add:
I think it is a team that had talent, that didn’t achieve what they hoped to. I don’t want to speak too much about somebody else's team, but it’s certainly a talented team. I think he has the chance to do really, really well with the Chargers.Jed York added
Jed York recalled the memories of working with Jim Harbaugh
Jed York spoke highly of how the two parties thrived together. Nearly a decade back, the Niners marched onto the Super Bowl. Now, a decade later, the 49ers have made it to the Super Bowl again. York connected the two dots in the interview.
Here is what he had to say:
We'd connected a little bit before that [10-year reunion] and then we invited him to come out, and told him that we set it up for that week because Michigan had a bye that week. You’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of your team going to the Super Bowl, it means something. And I think with anything, people mature, time passes and you tend to remember a lot more of the good things than maybe not-so-good things.Jed York said
York rooted for the success of his former friend in his upcoming chapter. He also noted that Harbaugh is certainly a gem of a head coach.
