The Cleveland Browns have made one of the biggest moves in the off-season. In a massive trade with the Denver Broncos, the Browns have acquired star wide receiver Jerry Jeudy in exchange for a couple of late-round draft picks.
According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Browns are sending their 4th (135th overall) and 5th round (No. 202 overall) draft pick to acquire Jeudy from the Broncos. The trade will be made official after the start of the new league year on March 13.
For Denver, this trade will give them 2 draft-round picks and also will free up more than $12 million in cap space, which they could use elsewhere after the start of the free agency. And for the Browns, this move will give them a true No.2 wide receiver. Their quarterback Deshaun Watson will now have another weapon to throw to, which could make them a very strong offensive unit.
As for Jeudy, this could be a big boost for the Alabama product, who wouldn’t have to carry the weight of being the number-one weapon in an offense anymore. He will play alongside Amari Cooper, David Njoku, and Nick Chubb, which will help him a lot. More importantly, he will now have a great quarterback throwing him the ball.
Jeudy was drafted by the Denver-based football team in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. In his first 4 years in the league, he registered 3,053 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns with the Broncos in 211 receptions. His best season came during the 2022 regular season when he caught 67 passes for 972 yards and 6 touchdowns. Jeudy did not register a single 1000-yard or a Pro Bowl campaign with the Broncos.
Jeudy is currently set to earn $12.987 million with the Browns in 2024 on his fifth-year option. However, the Browns could sign him to a long-term deal in the coming days.
Social media reacts to Jerry Jeudy-Browns trade
NFL fans on social media, especially the Denver Broncos fans had some wild reactions to the team trading away Jerry Jeudy in exchange for late-round draft picks. Fans were not happy with the compensation they received for Jeudy.
Many believe general manager George Paton could’ve received a lot more in return if he traded Jeudy back during the 2023 trade deadline. Check out some of the reactions attached below.
Nonetheless, with the addition of Jeudy, the Browns are now looking like a strong contender for the Super Bowl in the upcoming season. The Cleveland-based franchise already has a great defensive unit and now they have beefed up their offensive group.
