On Thursday, July 20th, several NFL franchise owners gathered in order to vote for the sale of the Washington Commanders. Many of them were seen coming up an escalator for the occasion, and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones claimed it was a great day for the NFL.
Just before the meeting began, owners were interviewed about their take on the potential takeover. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed, “I think it’s going to be a great day for the NFL, exciting, and a hallmark day.” It was definitely a red-letter day, and Jones did not mince his words about why he was excited. “The prospects of going into Washington and giving ’em some capital punishment.”
Former owner and childhood Commanders (previously Redskins) fan Dan Snyder bought the franchise in 1999 for $800 million. His time at FedEx Stadium hasn’t been memorable, certainly not for the fans. During his reign, they only managed to reach the playoffs six times and win only twice. He has a negative record as the Commanders’ owner (164-220-2).
However, it was the off-field antics that escalated the selling procedure. Snyder often got into a tussle with the minority shareholders in his team; eventually, he had to buy their shares as well. Moreover, a recent investigation report compiled by an attorney, Mary Jo White, solidified the allegation of toxic work culture at Commanders facility.
The owner unanimously approved the handover of the capital city football team to their new owner, Josh Harris, who reportedly paid an NFL record fee worth $6.5 billion. Harris told The Dallas Morning News, “We are humbled and awed by the level of responsibility,” and promised to win the Super Bowl.

Josh Harris promises a new and improved FedEx Field for the Washington Commanders
An American businessman and a Washington native like NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Josh Harris owns multiple sports-related companies. His Blitzer Sports and Entertainment recently bought the Commanders and has promised the fans that it will revamp its stadium, FedEx Field.
“We’re aware FedEx is an older stadium,” John Harris told the Washington Post. “We’re going to get to work. If someone comes to your house, you want it to be beautiful.” He revealed there would be various opinions and politics involved during the approval of the refurbishing process, but “we’re going to basically try to dig in and focus.”
However, the co-founder of Danaher Corp., Mitchell Rales, who is also the top investor in Harris’ group, claimed they might even think about building an entirely new stadium.
