After days of speculation, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has confirmed that they have their eyes set on Odell Beckham Jr. and will soon sign him. The star wide receiver, who is currently a free agent, is cleared to play again and has been linked with many teams as the business end of the league approaches.
Beckham Jr. suffered an ACL surgery in Super Bowl 56 for the Los Angeles Rams and has been out of action ever since then. It was rumored that Beckham Jr. will sign for the Cowboys but owner Jerry Jones was hesitant about it for the last few weeks and strangely; he has now confirmed that the team is looking to sign the star WR.
A couple of days ago, Jones confirmed that Beckham Jr. will join the team. The primary season for getting him on board is Cowboys’ playoff picture. The team has a good shot at the Super Bowl this season and Jones wants Beckham Jr. to be ready soon. “Odell’s going to join us,” Jerry Jones told USA TODAY Sports. “There’s a good chance he will, with the complete goal of getting ready for a playoff game or two, and then I’ll look to the future. But most of it being about now.”
Jerry Jones wants Odell Beckham Jr. to compete in the playoffs for the Cowboys
Jones wants the team to get a couple of good games to have a good foundation for the playoffs and is very positive that Beckham Jr. will have an impact on the team’s chances this year. He called Beckham Jr. a ‘great’ player and believes that whatever he said about him isn’t an exaggeration because that’s how good he is.
“I’m hopeful we can get into some important games and have some Deion Sanders-type results,” Jones said. “Could this be possible to have a great player like that get in two or three playoff games and make some significant plays? I think very much so. That’s not an exaggerated thought at all.”
It is expected that the Cowboys will sign Beckham Jr. next week after their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys are currently 10-3 for the season and are currently second in the NFC East division. They are competing with the Eagles, the Vikings, and the 49ers for the NFC Championship, and Odell Beckham Jr.’s addition will surely make their case stronger.
