The Dallas Cowboys might not have seen any on-field success in the last two decades but the owner Jerry Jones is certainly making bank. The Cowboys are once again towering over others as not just the richest NFL team, but the most valued sports team in the entire world. They continue their dominance this year too according to a recent study by Sportico.
The publication, which mainly focuses on the business side of the sports world, recently made a study about the most valued teams in the NFL. In the study, Jerry Jones’ Cowboys ranked number 1 with a total valuation of $9.2 billion. The Dallas-based football team has seen a nearly 20 percent increase from last year.
The numbers make the Cowboys not only the most valuable NFL team but the most valued franchise in the entire world. NBA’s Golden State Warriors and MLB’s New York Yankees take 2nd and 3rd place with values of $7.56 billion and $7.1 billion respectively.
As for the NFL, the New York Giants, who won their first playoff game in over a decade earlier this year, have jumped over the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams to become the second-most valuable NFL team. The Giants saw a 23% year-over-year (YoY) increase and are currently valued at $7.04 billion.
The Rams ($6.94 billion) and the Patriots ($6.7 billion) occupy 3rd and 4th place respectively while the San Francisco 49ers complete the top five with a valuation of $6.15 billion, a 19% increase from last year.
Surprisingly, some big-name teams like the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions rank at the bottom of the list. Moreover, The Cincinnati Bengals, who have been to two consecutive AFC Championship games in the last two years, are the NFL’s least valuable team ($4 billion) per Sportico.
Social media shocked by Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ financial success
NFL fans on social media were appalled by the Dallas Cowboys’ financial success despite their horrible track record on the field over the last two decades. The Cowboys are currently the highest-valued sports team in the entire world and they continue growing. However, they haven’t even been to a Super Bowl game in almost 3 decades.
The last time Jerry Jones and the Cowboys went to the big game is back in 1995. But owner Jerry Jones seems to be a master at marketing. Of course, the 5 Super Bowl rings they won in the past have played a huge part in their fanbase.
