Well, it appears Jerry Jones is willing to work with the legendary coach Bill Belichick even though at present, the Dallas Cowboys are not in a position to be looking at the head coach candidacy.
Throughout this regular season, there has been quite a debate on whether Mike McCarthy is capable of coaching the team to the Super Bowl and ending the prolonged drought of nearly three decades. And despite considering the Cowboys’ bizarre performance in the wild-card round of the 2023-24 regular season that got them eliminated from the playoffs, when Jones decided to sign McCarthy for another season, there appeared a shift in fans’ and critics’ opinions as they gave up on the subject of Cowboys’ head coach.
But now, in a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports, Dallas’ owner and general manager told Jori Epstein that he believes his pairing with former New England Patriots head coach could get along well. When Jones was asked what he respects about Belichick, he instantly replied:
I know him personally and I like him. There’s no doubt in my mind we could work together. None. None.Jerry Jones said
Interestingly, when McCarthy’s credibility was in question given the Cowboys’ not being able to make it past the divisional round in the playoffs for the last three years, there were also apparent speculations regarding the franchise’s interest in pursuing Belichick.
Perhaps that could have been a missing key in the Cowboys’ inability to end their Super Bowl drought, but again that’s a hypothetical scenario and can’t be executed at present.
What is Bill Belichick’s next career move?
Ever since the six-time Super Bowl champion coach bid farewell to the Patriots, there have been many speculations about his next potential career path. Despite many teams taking an interest in the 71-year-old, he reportedly considered only one and interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons. However, as things didn’t work out, the franchise went ahead and hired Raheem Morris instead.
At present, the only teams having head coach vacancies are Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders. But the Commanders are heavily linked with the Detroit Lions’ offensive coach and the Seahawks haven’t considered Belichick for the head coach position.
Though Belichick’s next career move is yet to be seen, the legendary coach seemed to be done with big-market media after giving 24 years to New England.
