For the next season, the New York Jets are looking to change the structure of the team completely. Aaron Rodgers will start and they have provided the green signal for the trade of their backup quarterback Zach Wilson. The latter had the opportunity last season to improvise on the field. However, he failed miserably and the team suffered due to that.
The quarterback did have ample opportunities because of Aaron Rodgers’ injury. In the first game of the season, Rodgers suffered a serious injury as he tore his Achilles. The quarterback did make good progress with the recovery but did not return to the field. This season, he is expected to make a grand return.
There are speculations that the Jets might go for Sam Howell as a backup quarterback next season. Though Howell’s place is not cemented, the Jets are finally looking for a different quarterback. Hence, they have decided to trade the quarterback.
According to a news by ESPN, the Jets GM Joe Douglas claimed that the discussions are going on with the quarterback’s agent. Douglas added:
I'm going to circle back with Brian at some point this week or next week just to see how those conversations go.Joe Douglas said
The GM seemed hopeful to get a good backup quarterback in the team. He did not reveal whom the Jets are willing to bring but said that the team would go for someone good.
Douglas said:
We're still really early in the offseason, especially when it comes to the veteran backup landscape and market. We've had good meetings and good evaluations with the guys that are available, and I think we're ready to take the next step and see where the market is exactly with these backup quarterbacks.Joe Douglas added
