Zach Wilson‘s second game as a starting quarterback for the New York Jets did not go according to plan. He completed 18 of 36 passes for 157 yards and didn’t score any touchdowns. Even after such a poor performance, head coach Robert Saleh is adamant that Wilson is their undisputed No. 1.

This wasn’t the case at the start of this month. Hearing the pleas of the Big Apple crowd, they decided to add Super Bowl winner Aaron Rodgers to the roster. But an unfortunate injury threw renewed hope out the window. A reasonable performance against a lackluster Bills restored some parity for Wilson, but the following defeats make a case against the 24-year-old. That’s not enough to deter Robert Saleh from his stance.

“He’s our unquestioned quarterback,” Saleh said. “He’s not the reason why we lost yesterday.”

That is true; one player can’t be the reason for the team to not show up during the game. But Zach Wilson is the quarterback, the main man from whom every drive begins. If the centerpiece is shaky, then the entire building will crumble. It was evident in Sunday’s match. The Jets only managed 10 points and 12 first downs. At some point, they have to realize that a massive decision is required. For now, that time is yet to come.

“It’s always a team effort,” Saleh added. “As long as he [Zach Wilson] continues to show improvement; I know it’s not showing [yet]. He’s going to be our quarterback.”

Joe Namath has advice for Robert Saleh regarding Zach Wilson

A fanbase that had not seen its team in the playoffs for a decade was preparing itself for glory this time around. But with consecutive L’s and without famed Aaron Rodgers, they are feeling the sense of dread all over again.

Former Jets quarterback and a huge fan of the franchise, Joe Namath, wants to see the back of Zach Wilson. His assessment of the first three games of the season was ‘awful.’

“I wouldn’t keep him,” Namath said recently in an interview. “He quit on a play. What is going on? It’s disgusting. I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson.”

Then the Pro Football Hall of Famer advised Saleh to trade the BYU product away. “Send him to Kansas City to back up against somebody like Mahomes,” he added. “Maybe he’d learn something.”

He didn’t show mercy to Saleh as well. “Can a coach say the locker rooms’ together?” Namath complained. “How many teams have we been on? Are you telling me there’s no cat on the defensive side of things? You gotta get people in there who are competitors and fight to win.”

Despite the bad results, the Jets players are sticking by Zach Wilson’s side. That’s probably what Namath was hinting at. Well, he and the Gang Green supporters have to endure more, as there’s no indication whether there’s a replacement quarterback coming in the near future.
