Zach Wilson’s future as the New York Jets’ starting quarterback is uncertain according to many experts around the league. However, Jets head coach Robert Saleh has implied that he is not giving up on the 2021 second-overall pick.
The Jets got rid of Sam Darnold two seasons ago in hopes of getting their new QB from the stacked QB class of the 2021 NFL draft. They ended up drafting Zach Wilson out of BYU with their second overall pick, as they firmly believed that his ‘rocker arm’ will be a big weapon in Robert Saleh’s offense. Although, the Wilson experiment is not going well for both sides.
During the first two years with the Jets, Zach Wilson has thrown for 4,022 yards while just completing 55.2 % of his passes. He has also thrown more interceptions (18) than touchdowns (15) as a New York Jet. Furthermore, he has also reportedly lost his teammates as he failed to take accountability for his bad performance in an abysmal loss against the Patriots in week 11 of the NFL regular season.
He has been benched three times this season in favor of three different quarterbacks, which shows that they simply don’t like what they see in Wilson. At one point in the season, he was bad that he got booed by the Jets fans in his home stadium.
While everything which has happened during this season and multiple reports from the NFL insiders suggest that the Jets might be done with the second-year QB, However, Jets HC Robert Saleh has implied that he and the Jets are not giving up on Zach Wilson.

The Jets are not done with Zach Wilson
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of their game against the Dolphins, Saleh said that Zach Wilson is healthy but won’t be playing in Week 18. He also assured that the Jets have all the confidence in Wilson’s talent and they’re going to work with him to help him reach his full potential.
“Zach has all the talent in the world, and we have all the confidence in the world in him,” Saleh said about their stand on the future of Wilson. “It’s just, like I said, a reset. We’re going to grind with him. We are. Through hell or high water, we’re going to figure (out) how to get him to where we know he can be.”
He also noted that Wilson is still young and it’s not a talent issue with the BYU star. “We want to make sure we reconnect with Zach and regain his confidence — regain his confidence in himself and us, and us and him, all of us,” he said. “Just to make sure he’s back on track, make sure his footwork is right, mechanics right, his mind right. It’s not a talent thing for Zach. I believe that. We’re going to work our tails off to help him, and we’re committed to him.” said Saleh at the press conference on Wednesday.
The BYU product’s future is uncertain at the Big Apple, but Saleh’s words must put some confidence in him. He will look to have a bounce-back year with the Jets if he does retain his job as the starting QB of the New York Jets in the 2023 NFL season.
