The MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will host the 2026 Soccer World Cup Final. Home of two NFL franchises, the New York Jets and the New York Giants beat out the likes of AT&T Stadium and the SoFi Stadium to earn the honor.

The 82,500-capacity MetLife Stadium is only five miles away from New York City. It has previously hosted the Super Bowl in February 2014 and the final of the Copa America Centenario in 2016.

Fans on social media expressed their concern about the MetLife Stadium hosting the Soccer World Cup final

Soon after the news broke that MetLife Stadium had been chosen for the 2026 Soccer World Cup, fans on social media opened up about past wounds. Even though it’s a massive crowd-puller being right in the heart of the Big Apple, Jets and Giants Stadium has a very sketchy history.

Football players always fear setting foot on the field because of the artificial turf. There have been several injuries; among them are Aaron Rodgers and Nick Bosa, just this past year. Last season, four Giants players suffered fatal injuries during game days.

One of the gut-wrenching injuries took place when Dolphins Jalen Phillips tore his Achilles non-contact injury. For that very reason, fans fear that the turf will also claim a few soccer player’s limbs.

Soccer fans can rest easy; FIFA has made an agreement that every stadium has to have natural grass. According to Ari Meirov, there won’t be any artificial turf during the Soccer World Cup.

When English Premier League sides Manchester United and Arsenal FC played a friendly game at MetLife, the stadium crew changed the turf to natural grass. Yet young winger Amad Diallo had to leave on crutches after suffering an injury.

Miami’s Hardrock Stadium will host the third-place playoff. Dallas and Atlanta will see the semi-finals, with the quarter-finals in Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, and Boston. The round of 16 will be hosted in Vancouver, Seattle, Houston, Dallas, Vancouver, Mexico City, Philadelphia, and New York.
