“It’s easy to blame the quarterback!” Jets WR Garrett Wilson defends Zach Wilson from the critics after his ‘awful’ 3 INT outing against the Cowboys

The New York Jets‘ first match without Aaron Rodgers got off to a horrible start. Replacement quarterback Zach Wilson threw three interceptions as they lost 30-10 to the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. But the rest of the Jets roster, especially Garrett Wilson, has chosen to stand beside the 24-year-old.
After the game, the media went into the locker room, where several players were trying to cheer the young quarterback up. On tight ends, defensive linemen stood by to say some words of encouragement. Receiver Garrett Wilson put his arm around the third-year signal caller and had a small chat before talking to the media.
“From the outside looking in, it’s easy to play the blame the quarterback; that’s the world we live in,” he said. “But all of us internally know that we all have to take the right steps to get better. Zach went out there and gave it his all.”
Zach Wilson did not even complete 50% of his passes. He recorded 12 of 27 passes for 170 yards, throwing for only 76 yards in the second half, and three interceptions. His best moment was a 68-yard pass for a Garrett Wilson touchdown. That’s probably the reason the 2022 Rookie of the Year believes that Zach needs time and team’s support.
“We’ve got to paint better pictures for him,” he added. “We’ve got to hold up in protection better for him.”
Robert Saleh has Zach Wilson’s back
The Jets faithful were looking forward to the 2023 season because of Aaron Rodgers. But his unfortunate Achilles tear brought back the horrors of last year. Without a franchise quarterback at the helm, the New York side has finished dead last in the past three years in the AFC East.

Zach Wilson’s first two games, this time around, had striking similarities with the previous horrible seasons. They were hanging on when the score was 18-10, but it went downhill from there. The game ended with four turnovers, including three interceptions, which will increase the demand for a new quarterback from fans. But head coach Robert Saleh thinks otherwise.
“I thought he did a nice job,” Saleh said after the game. “Obviously, late in the game, he had to force the ball to make something happen, and it didn’t go our way. There was a miscommunication on one of his INTs between him and the back, but they’ve got a hell of a front, and they did a good job applying pressure. He did nice in the pocket.”
However, when Micah Parsons is charging in at full speed, it’s hard to execute any plays, let alone move around in the pocket. Zach Wilson fell prey to that throughout the game.
