The Cleveland Browns legend Jim Brown is widely considered the greatest running back to ever suit up in the NFL. Brown used to dominate the NFL defenses for nearly a decade before he retired from the sport following the 1965 season.
Brown’s name would be on top of the list of many people’s favorite running backs. Unfortunately, one of the greatest running backs in the history of the league has peacefully passed away at the age of 87 in his home in Los Angeles, California.
“It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, Jim Brown,” Jim’s wife Monique Brown said in a statement. “He passed peacefully last night at our LA home. To the world, he was an activist, actor, and football star. To our family, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken.”
After a successful college football career at Syracuse University, Jim Brown was drafted by the Browns in the first round of the 1957 NFL Draft. He quickly became one of the dominant players in the league as he registered 997 scrimmage yards and 10 total touchdowns, which led to him winning the MVP award in his rookie year. He remains the only player to win Rookie of the Year and the MVP award in the same season.
And now, at 87 years of age, the 9-time Pro Bowler Jim Brown was pronounced dead at his Los Angeles home. Friends, family, and NFL fans have poured in their tributes to the late football legend.
RB Jim Brown enjoyed a one-of-a-kind career in the NFL

After winning the MVP award during his 1957 rookie season, the 6’2″ running back Jim Brown never looked back in his career. He went on to have 9 consecutive Pro Bowl seasons with the Cleveland Browns until he retired in 1966 after a 9-year-long remarkable career.
Brown made it to Pro Bowl in every season he played in the NFL. Furthermore, he also made it to the first-team All-Pro squad all but one season during his 9-year-long career.
Jim Brown also ended up winning 3 MVPs and also received the Bert Bell Award in 1963. His best season came in 1963 when he registered 2131 scrimmage yards and 15 total touchdowns.
In the end, Brown ended up retiring when he was 30 years old and at the prime of his career to focus on his acting career and civil rights activism. The 3-time MVP and onetime NFL Champion was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971 as a player.
