The Michigan Wolverines went into the game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers as the favorites. They kicked off the game with a statement. Just two plays in, they were already 7-0 up, which put a massive smile on the face of coach Jim Harbaugh.

Will Johnson picked up a stray pass from Gophers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis during only the second play of the game. Only 14 seconds into the game, the cornerback ran the length of the field to score a pick-6.

Even though it was an away day, the crowd cheered for the touchdown. The Michigan players celebrated it with a group picture. Even Jim Harbaugh stepped into the frame and hunched down on his leg to capture a memorable moment. Usually, only players are allowed to celebrate after scoring, but Harbaugh and defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale wanted in on the action.

However, fans may not even have seen such moments if Jim Harbaugh had decided to be a resident of the Twin Cities. The veteran head coach was reportedly close to taking the vacant Minnesota Vikings job in 2022. But they chose to appoint Kevin O’Connell.

Jim Harbaugh remains unbeaten this season with the Michigan State Wolverines

Michigan entered the game with five straight wins. Not only that, the Wolves have only conceded in single digits. It’s a testament to the coaching staff that Jim Harbaugh operates. But no matter how much screaming, planning, and simulation they do, the main business remains in the hands of the players. It is fair to say they have delivered.

The interception return was one example of the cunning play that Harbaugh runs. They quickly took a 14-point lead going into the second half and built it from there. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy produced another stellar performance to dissect the Minnesota defense.

McCarthy is playing his third season in Michigan. But last season, he had to share time with Cade McNamara, who later moved on to Iowa State. This meant that responsibility fell to J.J. The 20-year-old has done exactly that. In the 2023 season, he has 1,290 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns.

This was enough to convince coach Jim Harbaugh to brand McCarthy as the best quarterback in college football. After yesterday’s game, he sat in front of the press and stated that he would not trade for any other player because they have J.J.

“There’s a lot of great quarterbacks around the country,” Harbaugh mentioned. “I know there are; there’s a lot of really good ones. There’s nobody we’d rather have than J.J. McCarthy.”

He revealed to keep an eye on some that are on the headlines. But he did not specifically take anyone’s name. Next, Harbaugh’s Michigan State will face the Indiana Hoosiers on October 14.
