Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay is not letting anything slide regarding Andrew Luck and his current situation. He wants to make it clear to everyone that the QB is off-limits and is not up for grabs.
Luck is a former NFL QB who played seven seasons with the Colts and retired back in 2019. With the 33-year-old QB retired, the Washington Commanders still showed interest in signing the QB.
However, Irsay quickly intervened and issued a stern warning to all the NFL teams who have their eyes on Luck. Although he didn’t mention the Commanders, it was quite obvious he was addressing his rant to them.
“If any NFL Team, attempted to contact Andrew Luck (or any associate of him)… to play for their Franchise – it would be a clear Violation of the League’s Tampering Policy,” Colts owner Jim Irsay stated on Twitter.
Since Irsay gave this statement, many have started to look for a reason behind it. Andrew Luck retired in 2019, however, he still had 3 years remaining on his contract. This indicates that he’s still under contract with the Colts and likely remains their property.
In hindsight, if Luck ever opts to return to the league, then the Colts will have the first priority over him. If the Commanders were to approach Luck officially, then they will have to deal with the NFL’s anti-tampering policies.
The Commanders made contact with Andrew Luck regarding his availability
Andrew Luck played from 2012 to 2018 seasons in the NFL and had a career with the Colts. He was on his way to become a future Hall of Fame QB. However, he retired under mysterious circumstances while still being in contract with the team.
The Commanders are a bit bleak in the QB position after the departure of their starter, Carson Wentz. With lack of experience in the team, they felt Luck would be a great option to sustain the team for a couple of years. However, it seems like the Commanders won’t be able to get their hands on the talented QB due to the warning issued by Jim Irsay for a potential lawsuit.
Andrew Luck is a 4-time Pro Bowler who retired at the ripe age of 29. Nonetheless, the former QB believes his journey in the NFL is done and won’t be back for another bout.
