Ex-Cowboys HC Jimmy Johnson discloses Jerry Jones sought his advice on Dak Prescott’s future in Dallas after playoff loss against Packers
Jimmy Johnson was recently added to the Cowboys' Ring of Honor.

Jimmy Johnson is one of the most winningest head coaches in the history of the NFL. During his time with the Dallas Cowboys, he led them to 2 Super Bowl victories. Despite his achievements, he was fired by owner Jerry Jones and their relationship got icy and bitter over the years. However, in the last few years, they have worked out the issues and now Johnson has become an advisor for Jones.
During a recent interview with Joe Rose on WQAM 560 AM in Miami, Jimmy Johnson opened up about how the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones sought advice from the former head coach on QB Dak Prescott‘s future in the league. So, just like the 90s Johnson is once again helping out Jones on his decisions.

We were talking on the phone. I talked to him about an hour after his Green Bay [Packers] loss, and he was talking about what all he needed to do because he had big decisions on Mike McCarthy and Dan Quinn and Dak Prescott. Everything is hunky dory now. I am back in the fold with the Cowboys.Jimmy Johnson said
The conversation happened after the Cowboys’ upset loss against the Green Bay Packers in the wildcard round. It is unclear what Jimmy Johnson told Jones about Dak Prescott. But it is assumed that Johnson backed Prescott since the quarterback and head Mike McCarthy both kept their jobs.
Prescott had a remarkable regular season in 2023 and finished as one of the finalists for the league MVP award. However, he failed to step up in the playoff which led to the Cowboys getting bounced off in the first round of the postseason.
As for Johnson, his involvement with the organization comes just a few months after he was officially inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor. Johnson and Jones resolved their long-standing feud and the famed head coach was inducted into the franchise’s ROH last December.
Dak Prescott deserves another chance with the Cowboys
The Cowboys had an early exit from the playoffs in 2023 after an upset loss against the Packers. Dak Prescott had 2-interceptions in the game and was heavily criticized for it.

However, despite his 2 interceptions early in the game, Prescott managed to bounce back nicely and threw for 400-plus yards and 3 touchdowns. But, the Cowboys’ defense gave up 48 points and their offense couldn’t keep up.
It’s clear Prescott can rise to the occasion and perform at a high level. He certainly deserves another shot in Dallas to prove that he can lead them to the Super Bowl.
