J.J. McCarthy, who won the National Championship with the Michigan Wolverines, is surging up on the draft boards ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. According to ESPN journalists Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, McCarthy could become one of the hot prospects after the NFL Scouting Combine.
I still think teams are higher on Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy than a lot of people on the outside think, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him picked in the top 10.Jeremy Fowler wrote about McCarthy
This came after the NFL Scouting Combine took place a few days back. The quarterback’s performance in college football was a bit shaky. However, his former head coach Jim Harbaugh praised highly off him a few days ago. He forecasted that McCarthy would have a good future in the league in the coming time.
The draft stock of McCarthy started booming after the quarterback attended the NFL Scouting Combine. Despite having a slow start in the Combine, the quarterback impressed later with his arm strength. He connected a few impressive deep throws. He did not take part in the jump and runs, the quarterback only exhibited his throwing ability.
According to a report Bleacher Report, the quarterback could also benefit a lot because of his size. The NFL has a prototype for quarterbacks and McCarthy’s build (6’2″ 219 pounds) fits the bill.
The next season will provide a great opportunity for the college football quarterbacks. Three quarterbacks, Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are expected to go inside the Top 10 picks. Now, McCarthy has become the 4th best QB prospect in many experts’ draft boards.
The quarterback’s performance in college football was impressive. In addition, his decent performance at the scouting combine could also increase the chances of him being drafted within the first round.
J.J. McCarthy not worried about competition in the 2024 Draft class
Apart from J.J. McCarthy, there are a lot of other talents available in the 2024 NFL Draft. The draft class is filled with talents like Williams, Maye, and Daniels.
Williams is considered a generational prospect and is a Heisman Trophy winner. So, Williams is fairly confident about his chances of getting selected as the first overall pick. Daniels is also a Heisman Trophy winner and Maye is a highly touted prospect. So they are all confident about getting off the board within the first round.
However, McCarthy is not considered a great prospect by experts because of his numbers. Still, McCarthy knows he is the only player out of the four to win the national championship and he is proud of it. In an interview with Kevin Fishbain, he said that he doesn’t care about individual states and only cares about winning as a team.
The only stat I cared about was W’s, and we did pretty good in that category.J.J. McCarthy said
McCarthy was underutilized in Michigan due to the talent surrounding him. However, when it mattered the most, he delivered for the Wolverines and led them to a national title. Some teams might take a chance on him due to his winning nature, but it’s unlikely a team will use a first-round pick on him.
