The Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy is one of the top prospects in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. Ahead of the anticipated event, McCarthy showed off his physical skills at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. However, the CFP National Champion struggled a bit with the passing drills and raised a lot of eyebrows.

Despite his early struggles, McCarthy managed to find his rhythm and started to hit his targets. He even threw an impressive 60-plus yards bomb as his final throw at the event. He ended up putting on a decent show in front of his supporters. However, apart from the throwing drills, the 6’2″ and 219 pounds QB prospect did not participate in any other events, including the 40-yard dash and vertical jumps due to what he called hamstring tightness.

Still, his decent throwing drill has bolstered his draft stock. He is currently considered the 4th best quarterback in the 2024 draft class by many experts. Some experts even believe McCarthy could be drafted in the first round, but it’s unlikely considering the other quarterbacks rated higher than him.

Now, McCarthy is expected to be a late second-round or third-round draft pick. But he has certainly helped his draft stock with his performance at the Combine. He also showed off his velocity by throwing a 61 MPH pass (second-best mark) at the Combine.
