President Joe Biden‘s intention to sit down for an interview ahead of the Super Bowl this Sunday has been called apart after Fox Corp. went back and forth with the White House over an agreement that involved the President sitting down with Fox Soul, the streaming service of the company. Fox News was in the run-up to land an interview with President Biden and hoped to carry forward the tradition of having presidents appear on the network during Super Bowl week.

Earlier on Friday morning, the White House made an announcement that the President’s interview with Fox Soul had been scrapped. “The President was looking forward to an interview with Fox Soul to discuss the Super Bowl, the State of the Union, and critical issues impacting the everyday lives of Black Americans,” press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated via a Tweet, “We’ve been informed that Fox Corp. has asked for the interview to be canceled.”

Fox Corp. issued a statement in which it attributed “some initial confusion” as the reason for canceling the interview. A White House official spoke to POLITICO and stated that nothing had changed since Friday evening. “FOX has since put out a statement indicating the interview was rescheduled, which is inaccurate,” The White House official went on to add that the President was not expected to conduct a Super Bowl interview of any kind.

The initial round of talks between Fox News and the White House fell through. Earlier this week, a Fox anchor came out and revealed that the White House had ghosted the network. Representatives for Fox confirmed that discussions between both sides were over. House officials did not give any additional details regarding this subject.

President Joe Biden was expected to sit down with Fox’s Bret Baier. He has previously sat down with news anchors from other networks such as NBC and CBS. With their decision to not let the President sit down with one of the network’s top anchors, the White House has let go of an opportunity to share the President’s message to a large pre-game audience.

The President has instead been working on securing an agreement with Fox Soul, a streaming platform that is a part of Fox’s TV stations division and has the Black audience as their target audience. House officials arranged for the interview to originally be done by Fox Sports host Mike Hill and actress Vivica A. Fox.

The House approaching Fox Soul was a way to keep the President from having to sit across from a prominent Fox News personality, but still going through an interview. President Biden has not sat with Fox News for an interview since he became the POTUS.
