Joe Buck has been a loyal Fox Sports commentator for decades now. However, the sportscaster was not part of the recent Super Bowl game between the Chiefs and the Eagles. Buck made the switch from Fox to ESPN after decades of service to the former, which also gave a chance to sportscaster Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen to shine in their debut Super Bowl campaign.

The former Fox broadcaster recently appeared on the Michael Kay show and shared his feelings regarding not appearing for the NFL Super Bowl broadcast after being in charge of six Super Bowls.

Buck confessed to being happy about making the move to ESPN and stated that people must have moved on. However, he also agreed that his absence during this year’s Super Bowl was a bit weird.

“Yeah, I watched [The Super Bowl]. Was it weird? A little bit,” Buck stated on the Michael Kay show. “Because I think it’s only human nature to go, ‘Nobody can survive if the great Joe Buck isn’t there.’ But everything moves on, and they’ve moved on. And I’ve moved on. And Troy’s moved on. And I think everybody’s happy with what they have and where they are…It’s awkward because you’re not there anymore and I was there for 28 years of my life and did six of those things, but as far as the individuals involved, I couldn’t have been happier.”

The Fox team moved on pretty quickly from legendary Joe Buck and decided to keep Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen in charge of the Super Bowl game between the Eagles and the Chiefs.

Buck believes that he did a great thing and moved out of the way of other young sportscasters who were waiting for their time to shine. This included Kevin and Greg, who are comparatively new at the organization.

“I said it at the time when I moved over to ESPN, to get out of the way of somebody like Kevin [Burkhardt] and to get out of the way of somebody like Joe [Davis] on the baseball side, was kind of the untalked about silver lining. It was something that gave me great pleasure,” Joe Buck stated.

The duo did a great job calling out the game and were greatly praised for their commentary throughout the game. On the other hand, the great Joe Buck will have to wait till 2026 to call out his first Super Bowl game with ESPN.
