The Cincinnati Bengals suffered a huge blow on Thursday as their star quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending wrist injury. The injury happened during the second quarter of the game, but some people believe Burrow had a wrist injury even before their week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Ahead of the TNF game, the Bengals posted a video on the social media platform X, which showed Burrow wearing a wrist sleeve on his right hand. The team swiftly deleted the video after many people started questioning about the wrist brace. Following the injury, Burrow was asked about his wrist brace on Friday’s press conference.
During Friday’s press conference, Burrow admitted to wearing a compression sleeve, but he had another reason for wearing it. He made it clear that the wrist injury he suffered in the week 11 game is completely a different thing.
This is a completely different thing. It's not uncommon for guys to wear compression sleeves on a plane because, when you go up to that altitude, things can swell up. Football, you have a lot of bumps and bruises. This is a completely new injuryBurrow told reporters on Friday.
In addition, the Bengals’ head coach, Zay Taylor, also said the same thing about the wrist brace. Taylor said that it is a completely unrelated thing and that Burrow suffered the injury in the Ravens game.
Still, the NFL is reportedly launching an investigation around the issue since it would be an issue if the Bengals knew about Burrow’s injury and didn’t report it on their injury report.
Joe Burrow is out for the rest of the season
Following the wrist injury Joe Burrow suffered during the Bengals’ week 11 clash against the Ravens, the Pro Bowl quarterback has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing NFL season.
Initially, Burrow was suspected to have just sprained his wrist, but now an MRI confirmed the Bengals quarterback suffered a torn ligament in his right-hand wrist and might’ve to go through surgery to get it fixed. In Burrow’s absence, the second-stringer Jake Browning is expected to be the Bengals leader for the rest of the season.
The Bengals are currently holding a 5-5 record and are sitting at the bottom of the AFC North division. As the division title is seemingly out of their picture, the Bengals would look to secure a wildcard spot in the postseason.
