The Cincinnati Bengals fans can breathe a sigh of relief since all signs are pointing toward the star quarterback Joe Burrow, being the starting QB of the Bengals in week 1 of the 2022 regular season. The Cincinnati-based football team recently released the veteran signal-caller Trevor Siemian as part of their roster cuts ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. Currently, Burrow and Jake Browning are the only QBs on the Bengals’ depth chart.
Furthermore, head coach Zac Taylor has shared a positive note on the recovery of Burrow. However, he evaded the question about the timeline of the quarterback’s return to the practice field.
“We’ll see,” Taylor told ESPN when he was asked whether Burrow will start practicing next week ahead of the Bengals season opener. Still, Taylor said he is encouraged by the recovery of Burrow. “I think he has a very healthy body. And I’m encouraged by that,” said Taylor.
Taylor also shared encouraging words last week when asked about Burrow’s recovery process. The head coach said that Burrow “looks as good as he’s ever looked.” And now, the Bengals releasing Trevor Siemian hints that they are confident they won’t need a third quarterback during week 1. So, the Pro Bowl QB’s recovery is going as planned and if not for any setbacks, Burrow is likely to take the field as the starting QB in the Bengals’ season opener.
Burrow hasn’t been practicing since he was carted off the field after sustaining an injury back in July. The Bengals avoided a massive scare as Taylor later revealed that Joe Burrow suffered a calf injury. As expected, Burrow has missed most of the practice camp and will likely begin training next week ahead of the NFL season opener.
Zac Taylor dismisses Joe Burrow ‘holding out’ speculations
The 2021 Comeback Player of the Year award winner Joe Burrow hasn’t been practicing since July after suffering a calf injury at the Bengals’ training camp. He is seemingly making good progress on his injury and is likely to be the QB number 1 for the Bengals in the upcoming season.
Amidst this, some people speculated that Burrow has been missing practice since he couldn’t reach a middle ground in his contract negotiations with the Cincinnati-based football team.
However, now Zac Taylor has dismissed that notion with a simple “no.” He quickly replied “No” when he was asked if Burrow’s lack of practice is linked to his contract extension.
Nonetheless, fans will get the timeline of Burrow’s return soon as NFL season looms around the corner. The Bengals will open their 2023 campaign with a tough road game against their AFC North division rivals Cleveland Browns on September 10.
