The Los Angeles Chargers just signed their franchise QB Justin Herbert to a historic long-term deal that made him the highest-paid QB in the NFL in terms of average annual value. And now, the clock is running out for the Cincinnati Bengals to sign their leader Joe Burrow to a long-term extension. Recently, Burrow gave an update regarding his contract negotiations just hours before Herbert inked his deal.

“I got nothing for you my man, you’ll have to wait and see,” Burrow told insider Field Yates with a smirk when he was asked about an update on his contract negotiations during a recent episode of the ESPN show NFL Live.

Burrow made an appearance on the show to promote the Bodyarmor energy drink. But Yates made sure to ask the right questions. After Burrow shut down the question with a smart answer, Yates pushed the Bengals QB and asked how his contract will affect the other players in the Cincinnati-based football team.

This time, Burrow answered with a more detailed answer and claimed that he is confident that the Bengals will be able to keep all the players tied to the franchise.

“You have guys around you that have helped you have the success you’ve had,” Burrow said. “Our front office has done a great job of that for the last couple of years of putting us in the best position to succeed the way we have. We’ll see where it goes but I’m confident we will be able to keep everybody.”

Just like Burrow, the Bengals’ star receiver Tee Higgins is also up for a contract extension as he is entering the final year of his rookie deal. But unlike the quarterback, Higgins doesn’t have a 5th-year option, so the Bengals have to make a decision regarding his future soon.

Joe Burrow contract estimated to be costlier than Justin Herbert

A few days ago some reports suggested that the Bengals QB Joe Burrow is waiting for the Chargers signal-caller Justin Herbert to get his extension done to base his contract on it and vice versa. And now Herbert has signed his contract. He inked a record-breaking 5-year deal worth up to $262.5 million with the Los Angeles-based franchise that made him the highest-paid QB of all time in terms of AAV.

In the 2023 off-season alone, 3 quarterbacks, Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, and Herbert have signed blockbuster multi-year contracts with their franchises, all in the same pay grade of around $50 million per year.

Now, Burrow is expected to follow in their footsteps and sign just a bit costlier contract than Herbert’s deal with the Chargers. Burrow, who led his franchise to Super Bowl in his second year, would certainly be worth every penny.
