Following the resounding success of the first season of Netflix’s series ‘Quarterback,’ fans had been eagerly anticipating the lineup for the second season. The speculation has ended with the announcement that Joe Burrow from the Cincinnati Bengals will be featured in the upcoming season of the show.
Despite having declined the opportunity earlier, the 26-year-old has evidently had a change of heart regarding his appearance on the show. This shift was hinted at by Boomer Esiason, one of the NFL’s greatest players.
“It sounds like Joe Burrow is doing the ‘Quarterback,’ by the way,” the former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback stated on WFAN in New York on Wednesday morning. Despite not revealing the source of his speculation, he sounded confident.
Esiason unveiled Burrow’s name during a panel discussion centered around New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, who is considered a potential candidate for the show. As of now, the Pro Bowler himself has remained silent regarding this new development.
The sudden interest of LSU in being part of Netflix’s series remains unclear, given that prior to the news emerging, there were no indications of their involvement. Burrow had categorically denied any rumors linking him to the show.“Everybody knows I’m a very private person, especially in my personal life,” he told the reporters. “That’s a window I’m not ready to share yet.”
However, he has kept his doors open for any future gigs. “Maybe one year; this year, I’m not,” he said. “I would like to do it maybe a couple of years down the road, but now is not the right time.”
In addition to Joe Burrow, several players have turned down Netflix’s Quarterback
The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback may be on the cusp of joining the Peyton Manning-produced show, but there have been several others who have turned it down. Since its release on July 12, the audience has loved every second of the documentary. It allowed them a sneak peek into the lives of their favorite players.
The show covers the stories of three quarterbacks at different stages of their careers. Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, almost at the twilight of his NFL journey, Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, and struggling Marcus Mariota of the Philadelphia Eagles (Atlanta Falcons when filmed) feature in the first season.
As it gradually became a household name, fans remained eager for the next batch of players for Season 2. However, they have been repeatedly let down by the players’ unwillingness to participate. Analyst Emmanuel Acho even encouraged the players to accept the offer.
Nevertheless, the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts, and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence all turned down the opportunity, citing the same reason as Burrow. They don’t want too much media attention on their private lives.
