Joe Burrow is not bothered by not signing a new contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. The quarterback remains committed to the franchise and aims to add a Super Bowl ring to his locker room.
However, their aspirations were thrown into contention when Burrow picked up a knock during preseason. Upon close examination, the Bengals front office revealed it was a calf strain. But they remained vague when asked about the duration of the 26-year-old’s rehab.
Head coach Zac Taylor chose to stay tight-lipped about the situation. However, he assured everyone that Burrow was recovering nicely.”He looks great,” Taylor claimed. “Physically, just walking around, he looks as great as he has.”
Amidst the unfortunate incident, talks about the Pro Bowler’s contract extension became sidelined. As per Sports Illustrated, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler claimed the Bengals were keen on making Joe Burrow the highest-paid player. “Burrow will no doubt be the highest-paid player in the NFL once his deal does get done,” he said in May.
Three months later, that deal is nowhere near completion. Several analysts speculate that Burrow’s injury woes are delaying the extension. However, Taylor said that these two situations are not related and that they’re not in his hands, so he can’t reveal much.
Meanwhile, the player himself is not bothered by all the chatter and remains committed to the Cincinnati Bengals. “That’s the last thing I’m worried about,” Burrow told the media on Wednesday. “It’s going to come.”

Since Burrow’s statement, there have been new developments regarding his contract. As per Dianna Russini of the Athletic, the Bengals are working things out behind the scenes. It’s only a matter of time before they announce the blockbuster deal.
“Both Burrow and the Bengals have kept major information from leaking,” Russini wrote. “But based on my discussions, there’s optimism in the building. A deal could get done over the next few days.”
That may be, but there’s still no confirmation whether the LSU alumnus will play the week-one game against the Cleveland Browns. But Russini noted that Burrow participated in the practice on Wednesday. She said, “Joe is a competitor. He’s not missing a game against the Browns.”
Burrow is set to make $11.5 million this year, and that will drastically change if the Bengals do give him a new deal. Recently, Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert penned a five-year, $262 million deal, which means he will earn $52.5 million annually. Burrow’s extension falls into that category, and they are known to give their quarterbacks massive contracts. Andy Dalton comes to mind.
