Joe Burrow set to get ‘fit’ for Bengals’ season opener amid serious injury concerns
Head coach Zac Taylor has remained tight lipped about Burrow's return but Fowler expects the quarterback to return as soon as week 1.

The Cincinnati Bengals might have lost their preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, but fans were delighted to see Joe Burrow throw some balls before the game. His July 27 calf strain sent shockwaves through the league, speculating a lengthy spell on the sidelines. However, recent developments suggest he might be back earlier than expected.
Head coach Zac Taylor stayed tight-lipped about Burrow’s recovery, stating his signal caller was “progressing as he should.” However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that his inside sources at the Bengals told him that Joe Burrow might start against the Cleveland Browns on September 10.
“People I’ve talked to do believe that he’ll be ready to go [at] week 1,” Fowler said. “They’re taking this really slowly. Signs are pointing in the right direction.”
However, a calf strain left unchecked can get worse, according to analyst Emmanuel Acho. But the Bengals believe that Burrow is confident that he can brush it off. “It’s a calf strain; it’s something that he can manage,” Fowler added.
Joe Burrow will be entering his fourth season at Paycor and is already counted as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. On July 27, he hobbled off during training camp and did not play on Friday. Instead, Jake Browning took center stage against the Packers. Browning, who has been with the Bengals since 2021, played the first half, going 10-of-17 for 95 yards and one interception. New recruit Trevor Siemian also got a run in and went 15-of-28 for 121 yards with one interception.

Joe Burrow is back to practice with the Cincinnati Bengals

It seems Jeremy Fowler’s inside sources could be onto something after Joe Burrow was seen training. According to FOX19’s Joe Danneman, the 26-year-old was without a compression sleeve on his calf earlier today. All eyes were on him as he walked out for practice.
It wasn’t just Burrow that made a comeback; several notable players scratched their names off the injured list. Among them was veteran linebacker Logan Wilson. The other was the starting right guard, Alex Cappa, who missed a few training sessions due to lower body issues.
Moreover, punter Drue Chrisman and right tackle La’el Collins are also close to full recovery. Fans may not see them in the warmup matches, but they may well make it back by the first week. But before that, the Cincinnati Bengals will play their second preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons on August 19.
