“Robbed in broad daylight” – Joe Flacco winning the ‘Comeback Player of the Year’ over Damar Hamlin for leading Browns to the playoffs doesn’t sit well with fans on social media
Damar Hamlin had made a miraculous comeback on the field this season post his traumatic cardiac arrest.

From being a free agent in the 2023 offseason to winning the Comeback Player of the Year Award, the 39-year-old Joe Flacco has seen it all. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, no one expected that the veteran quarterback would have a journey like this.
Flacco’s dream run began when the Cleveland Browns were suffering due to quarterback issues. Another irregular season of Deshaun Watson coupled with injury concerns of their backup quarterbacks compelled the team to have a look at Joe Flacco, who was released by the New York Jets at the end of last season. Flacco was 39 and was not expected to provide the rhythm to the Cleveland Browns.

Nevertheless, Flacco proved everyone wrong with his amazing performance on the gridiron. His team competed in the most difficult division in the AFC, but that did not prevent them from making it to the playoffs. Flacco registered great numbers in just five games for the team.
The quarterback completed 123 of his 204 passes for 1,616 yards with 13 touchdowns. He became the first player to register 250 yards with two touchdowns in each of his first five games this season. He also delivered a 4-1 record for the Browns in those games.
Considering the performance of Flacco, Andrew Berry, Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager of the Browns stated,
He did a great job of coming in and really playing at a high level that allowed us to go on a run at the end of the year. Played really good football in December, even if maybe we ended a little bit with a thud against Houston in the Wild Card round. Really pleased with what Joe did on the field, pleased with who he was as a teammate.
Joe Flacco winning the award does not sit well with the fans
Despite providing the best effort on the turf, fans disapproved of Flacco winning the award over Damar Hamlin. Hamlin, who suffered a cardiac arrest last year in the Cincinnati Bengals vs the Buffalo Bills game, made a miraculous recovery and came back to the field this season. Beating all the odds, the player had some minutes.
Damar Hamlin’s footballing career became uncertain after the player was subjected to an incident like this. Very few people thought that he would make it to the field as an active player. Fighting all uncertainties, Hamlin came back and had some minutes for the Bills.

The fans, who were impressed by Hamlin’s perseverance, expected the Bills player to win the Comeback Player Of the Year Award. When that did not happen, they got frustrated and took the issue to X and flooded the space with comments. Check some of the comments that they made.
It is to be seen what happens to Joe Flacco after this year. Whether he stays with the team in the next season as a backup quarterback or the team favors him for his epic drives in the second half of the 2023 season, is to be seen.
