Joe Flacco is writing a new script for this year’s NFL. The QB’s future became unsure when the New York Jets released him in the year 2022. As him being in his late thirties, everyone thought that he had no future at this age and no contracts in hand.
However, the future had a different destiny set for him. Due to the growing quarterback injury problems, the Cleveland Browns hired him as their regular starter. In his late thirties, the quarterback is proving himself as the dark horse. In just five games, the QB has covered 1,616 passing yards with 13 touchdowns. Though he was intercepted eight times, the fans did not mind that much.
The QB had three touchdown games thrice. Among these three, his performance against the New York Jets is a recent one which is getting hailed by the fans. The QB covered 309 yards with a 65.5% passing completion rate. Seeing this outing, chants of Flacco for the Comeback Player of the Year award are growing with good reason.
If Flacco gets nominated for the ‘Comeback Player of the Year’ Award, then he will face tough competition from Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills safety, who also has a great story of comeback this season.
Is Damar Hamlin playing?
Damar Hamlin has had one of the most unthinkable comeback stories in this year’s NFL. He suffered a cardiac arrest in the middle of a game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Bills at the start of 2023, during the regular season matchup of last season. He was immodestly cordoned off to the hospital. No one expected that the safety would make a comeback so soon on the turf after that massive scare.
However, that miracle happened. The safety took to the field against the Denver Broncos in week 10 of the ongoing season.
I think it was more so about promising to myself than anything else, just showing myself that I have the courage, I have the strength, that I have the pride, everything, all those words, in me to be able to go through something traumatic and to be able to come back from it.Hamlin said after the game via the AP
This season, the safety has played in two games so far. The Bills’ special medical team had a major role in Hamlin’s unbelievable return to NFL as an active player.
