The New York Jets want to be amongst the winners in the NFL after a horrendous season in 2022/23 and have made numerous big-name signings to bolster their roster ahead of the new season. Aaron Rodgers‘ trade from the Green Bay Packers is arguably the biggest investment during the offseason, but many had their reservations about it early on.
Former New York Jets defensive lineman, Joe Klecko was among those who had doubts about Aaron Rodgers’ quality and the things he would bring into the Jets locker room. The Hall of Famer had publicly objected to the move claiming that Rodgers would disturb the Jets locker room, especially the youngsters within the team.
Klecko’s concerns weren’t out of place, especially after the reports that emerged out of the Packers’ locker room last season. Rodgers was continuously critical of his young wide receivers throughout the season, despite the quarterback having one of the worst seasons of his career.
Aaron Rodgers is starting to win over his doubters in New York following his big-money trade
However, Klecko has now started to change his opinion about the 39-year-old quarterback, after seeing the amount of work that he has put in during the offseason so far. Rodgers earned heavy praise from the Hall of Famer, who compared him with Tom Brady, who had a huge reputation for having a positive impact on his other teammates.
“He’s a different duck. He really is. There’s no doubt,” Klecko said on the Jake Asman Show. “But as far as him as a football player, I’ve always said, as far as an accurate passer, there probably has never been one as good and presently there’s not. He’s the best accurate passer in the league and a four-time MVP. . . . My only contention was how he was going to get along with the young guys, you know? I made a reference to it, because the team I was on, we grew together.”
“That was really a cool thing because we got along so well. That’s what I was hoping, which he now has shown. He’s ingratiated the rest of the team, and he’s out there teaching guys. He’s doing the things that you see a Tom Brady do. I think he’s going to be a big surprise for everybody in New York.”
In all fairness, Rodgers has conducted himself exceptionally both with his teammates and in front of the media during his brief stay at his new franchise so far. The quarterback looks fresh and hungry to go out there and win himself a second Super Bowl, something he has not won since 2011.
