Joe Mixon did the exuberant coin toss celebration during the week 18 matchup between the Bengals and the Ravens. Mixon scored a touchdown and later did a celebration that caught the eye of the NFL and Roger Goodell.
The Bengals RB paid a trip to the end-zone and pulled out a coin from his gloves. Mixon then flipped the coin on the field as all the other Bengals players celebrated with him. The league has a serious policy against using props for celebrations. Accordingly, a fine was issued against the 26-year-old.
Mixon wasn’t the only one who was involved in the controversial celebration, as former WR Chad Johnson initially gave Mixon the idea for the insane celebration. Before the Bengals-Ravens game, Johnson tweeted, “Dear Bengals players, if you love me the way i love you guys when you score tomorrow someone has to flip a coin as their celebration & call tails.”
The NFL issued a $13,261 fine against Mixon for the celebration. The Bengals RB was appealing the fine in numerous ways. Although, the most interesting was when he challenged NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for the coin-flip to pay the fine. Mixon challenged Goodell and stated if the toss comes to head, then he would pay the fine and if the toss comes out as tails, then Roger Goodell will pay the entirety of the amount.
Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson also offered to help Mixon for paying the fine as it was his idea since the beginning and he wanted to make sure that the 26-year-old was covered.

The Bengals RB was aggravated as the league took the hilarious decision to determine home field advantage in the wild-card round through a coin flip. The whole incident started during the Bills-Bengals game, where Damar Hamlin suffered a tragic injury that led to his severe cardiac arrest.
The game was suspended indefinitely, and the NFL decided to establish a home-field advantage through a coin toss. If the Ravens had won against the Bengals, then the AFC North playoff stadium would be decided through a coin toss. With reference to that then Mixon tweeted the below tweet, issuing the aforementioned challenge.
However, the Bengals sneaked in a comfortable victory against the Ravens and got the home-field advantage by default. Nonetheless, the Bengals-Ravens playoff showdown will now be held in Cincinnati on Super Wild Card weekend.
On the other hand, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell still hasn’t commented on the coin-flip challenge and will probably not comment at all. Joe Mixon will have to pay the fine, regardless.
