Joe Mixon was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2nd round of the 2017 NFL draft. Since then, the talented RB has been loyal to his team and provided them with great performances. However, the Bengals RB took it a bit further when he recently restructured his deal and apparently took a pay cut just to be with his team. Mixon was due $10.1 million this season. However, the restructured contract will see him play in Cincinnati for the 7th season but with a lot less pay.

Joe Mixon and the Bengals have agreed to a new deal that will pay him just under the base salary amount of $6 million for a single season. With added incentives, his pay could reach up to $8 million. “Joe just agreed to a restructuring of his deal. His goal is to win a Super Bowl and play his career in Cincinnati, and this is the best way to accomplish these goals,” Joe Mixon’s agent, Peter Schaffer, said on Friday, per Pelissero.

Although the Bengals RB has taken this decision with his own consideration, many fans were puzzled as to what led to this. The Bengals are recently speculated to offer QB Joe Burrow a record-breaking deal that will easily make him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

Joe Mixon’s new deal has taken social media by storm and many have questioned the Bengals for giving an unfavourable deal to a quality player. The talented RB rushed for 814 yards on 210 attempts and scored seven touchdowns, but the 26-year-old also only played (and started) 14 games.

NFL Twitter slammed the Bengals organization and even called them stingy for not offering Mixon an improved deal. With reports of Burrow getting a massive deal, this polarization wasn’t accepted by the masses who were visibly enraged.

Although there were many who criticized Joe Mixon for getting a pay cut from the Bengals, there were also many who applauded his loyalty and rooted for the RB who took a pay cut to make cap space for his QB.
