“Goodell’s feelings are hurt” – Joe Mixon takes a dig at the NFL with coin toss celebration against Ravens
Joe Mixon pulled off a sensational celebration after scoring a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens.
Joe Mixon celebrating
The Cincinnati Bengals have a point to prove and have started off their Week 18 game against the Baltimore Ravens with that mindset. After their previous game against the Buffalo Bills was suspended following Damar Hamlin’s unfortunate injury, the NFL decided not to restart the game later.
Under such unprecedented circumstances, the NFL decided that the toss of a coin would decide the home advantage for the playoff game if it came down to that. This would occur only if the Bengals fail to win their ongoing game against the Ravens, and needless to say, the Bengals players did not like it one bit.
They brought out their frustrations to the fore taking a vicious dig at the NFL’s coin toss policy after scoring their first touchdown of the game against the Ravens. Joe Mixon took the lead in bringing out a well-thought-out celebration that could well see him fined by the NFL.
Joe Mixon obliged Chad Johnson’s request of doing the coin toss celebration
After scoring the first touchdown of the game with about a minute’s play left in the first quarter, the running back brought out a coin from his gloves and flung it in the air for a toss. Although they did not do a great job of masking what the celebration meant, the innovative nature of it was quite a sight to behold for the fans.
Former Bengals wide receiver, Chad Johnson had urged the players to perform this celebration and Joe Mixon and co. obediently obliged to his request. He wrote, “Dear Bengals players, if you love me the way i love you guys when you score tomorrow someone has to flip a coin as their celebration & call tails.”
During the week, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor also voiced his frustrations against the rule changes made by the NFL in regard to cancelled games. Taylor opined that the coin toss would only impact them negatively, while it might be a boon for some other franchises.
“But it seems like there’s positives for a lot of teams and just negatives for us,” Taylor said. “So we have the opportunity to play for a coin flip. That can only negatively impact us. We don’t have the opportunity to play for a coin flip that will positively impact us.”
Twitter Reacts to Cincinnati Bengals’ innovative celebration
However, it appears that the Bengals would not have to depend on a coin toss after all, especially given the start they have had to their final game against the Ravens.
