Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon has landed himself in hot water, entangled in a slew of legal troubles this offseason. First, he was accused of allegedly firing shots in his backyard that injured a teenager. The kid got away without any life-threatening injuries, but the authorities apprehended Mixon’s sister and her boyfriend.
Now, the star running back has been dragged to court for an incident that occurred on the same day as the Bills-Bengals AFC divisional playoff game. Less than a mile from Highmark Stadium, Joe Mixon allegedly waved his gun in the face of a woman and said she “should be popped in the face.”
An arrest warrant was issued in his name but dropped within 24 hours because of a lack of evidence. However, the police have found new evidence, prompting them to file new charges against the running back.
“This decision was reached following the discovery of new evidence during the investigative process,” the Cincinnati Police Department said in a statement Friday via ESPN. “To preserve a fair and impartial judicial process for all parties involved, no investigatory details or evidence will be disclosed outside of official court proceedings.”
In a Cincinnati courthouse on Wednesday, Joe Mixon pleaded not guilty to an aggravated threatening misdemeanor charge. Mixon wore a buttoned-down white shirt to court and did not speak to the media as he entered and exited the courtroom.

The Bengals are asking Joe Mixon to take a pay cut in 2023
The Bengals recognized Joe Mixon’s talents and selected him in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft. He was the heart and soul of the backfield, along with Samaje Perine. With Perine now playing for the Denver Broncos, Mixon is the only star running back left in Cincinnati.
With the new charges being brought in, the Bengals are expecting Mixon to take a pay cut or leave the team altogether. As per Over the Cap, Joe Mixon has a cap hit of $13 million in 2023.
In addition to his off-the-field issues, Joe Mixon‘s production dropped significantly in 2022. The 26-year-old rushed for 814 yards and seven touchdowns, in stark contrast to his 1,205 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns performance in the 2021 season.
Joe Mixon’s future with the Bengals will depend on the outcome of his court proceedings and whether he agrees to a pay cut. He signed a four-year, $48 million contract extension in 2020 and will become a free agent in 2024.
