In the 2023-24 season, Brock Purdy added a lot of feathers to his hat. He broke multiple franchise records last season and was one of the frontrunners for the MVP. However, what would satisfy him more is the crown of being a perfect team man.
In a recent interview, the 49ers’ general manager John Lynch Praised how the quarterback sacrificed his own money showing character towards the cause of the team. According to Lynch, Purdy’s inexpensive contract helped the team retain a lot of players who charge high amounts.
Lynch said during an interview for the latest 49ers Talk episode:
A lot of people get mad, like, ‘You’re being cruel to this guy; why don’t you give him something?’ We can’t. I’d love to. He further noted that his inexpensive contract helps the team provide him with the best options available in the squad.John Lynch said
He went on to add the following:
I think because of that, we’ve been able to build around him in such a way. And we’ve had a lot of good players. Fortunately, we drafted well and we’ve made some trades for players who are some of the best in the league.John Lynch added
The statement of the general manager triggers a pertinent question. To whom is he referring as the expensive players? A report by NBC Sports shared that few names can be considered as expensive players. Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, Javon Kinlaw, Fred Warner, and Kyle Juszczyk are the players who share hefty price tags.
John Lynch hinted towards a more deep planning in the coming time
A time will come when the Niners will have to rethink their strategy and change a few things. Purdy won’t be sacrificing his payment for long and the team will have to pay the money he deserves. Lynch indicated the possible situation and said that they would be making some plans.
Here is what Lynch had to say on the same:
That’s why you always have to be planning a few years out. And we’re trying to toe that line between being very aggressive each year and also planning for the future such that there’s not a time, ‘All right, we got to blow this thing up. We want to keep it together and have success now and into the future, and I think we have a good plan to do so.'John Lynch said
The next season, the Niners will draw a plan to win the Super Bowl. There are rumors that the team wants to get rid of some players. It is to be seen how they restructure the team for the next season.
