Packers’ Jonathan Owens discloses he didn’t know Simone Biles was the ‘most decorated gymnast ever’

Green Bay Packers safety Jonathan Owens claimed that he wasn’t aware that Simone Biles was an Olympic-level gymnast before they started dating. Not only that, he also asserted that he was a “catch.”

Owens and Biles sat down together to have an exclusive interview with the Pivot Podcast. The couple, who recently got married, spilled the beans on how they first connected. And there were several surprising revelations.

The 28-year-old Owens said that he had no clue who Biles was because he did not have an interest in gymnastics. His first taste of the sport happened when Biles popped up on Raya back in 2020.

I never really paid attention to gymnastics. So it piqued my curiosity, and I was like, 'Lemme see who this is.

While it may come as a shock to many that Owens had never heard of Biles, he tried his level best to provide a viable explanation. The Missouri Griffin graduate claimed he did not have channels that showed Olympic games on TV.

When she won the Olympics, I was in college, and we didn't have NBC, so no Olympic channels. We were in camp in late July and early August. So I never had a moment where I would have watched [Biles perform].

He then revealed that it was Biles who first messaged him. What caught his attention was the number of followers the 26-year-old had. That made him realize that she must be good.

I didn't know who she was at the time. But, like, the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers. So in my mind, I'm like, 'OK, she's got to be good.

Owens claimed he was the catch over Biles

In most cases, it’s the guy who chases after the girl. But it was the other way around for Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles. Well, at least that’s what Owens claimed. The former Arizona Cardinals man believes that he is the catch, or, to phrase it more precisely, “men are the catch.”

He said that while sitting next to Biles. Host Ryan Clark saw the opportunity and fired a counter.

So she really booked you.
Clark asked
She did, though! Because I was fighting it. I was afraid to commit, but you know, it happens when you least expect it.
Owens replied

The conversation trodded on to ‘when he finally understood how famous Biles was.’ It was during a short outing to eat some ice cream.

All these moms, and they're there with their kids, and we walked past, and everybody stopped. Kids were just shaking, like, 'Oh, my God'.

The two quickly became the talk of the country when Biles started attending the Packers game. She would often visit Lambeau Field and give Owens a good-luck kiss before the kickoff.
