The Green Bay Packers have always managed to scout and develop franchise quarterbacks, unlike any other franchise in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love are living proof that their coaching department knows how to nurture potential future starters.
However, there’s always been the question of how the transition from one quarterback to the other happens on a team. Whether it’s a smooth one or the relationship ends on a sour note. The football fandom has always stamped the latter one while discussing Rodgers and Jordan Love‘s situation.
Love was in the same draft class as Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and Jalen Hurts in 2020. However, unlike Burrow and Hurts, who have played in the Super Bowl, Love had to back up as Rodgers was in the twilight of his Packers career. He finally got a shot at being the starter when the veteran left to join the New York Jets in early 2023.
Love took the Packers to the playoffs, even beating the Dallas Cowboys in the wildcard as the full-time starter. Rodgers even sent him a text congratulating him. The 25-year-old finished the season with 372 pass completions, more than 4,200 passing yards, and 32 touchdowns.
The former and current Packers quarterbacks recently linked up at a charity football game. A still shot from the day surfaced on X (formerly Twitter).
Did Aaron Rodgers have a good relationship with his predecessor?
Contrary to popular belief, Aaron Rodgers has always shown faith in Jordan Love. While appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers asked Packers fans to be patient and have faith in love.
I would say to Packers fans, ‘Take some deep breaths. Just trust this kid. He’s a great kid, and he’s going to be around for a while'.Rodgers told McAfee
However, did the four-time NFL MVP have a similar rapport with his predecessor, Brett Favre? Not at first. But their relationship is that of competitors on the field.
Favre was 35 when the Packers drafted Rodgers in the first round in 2004/05. Both wanted to prove themselves for different reasons, but the goal was the same: becoming the starter.
I would say we were strong enemies. I wanted to play my tail off, and so did he, especially when we played against each other [Favre for the Minnesota Vikings]. We got along really well when he was a young 21, 22, 23-year-old, and then we went about our way.Brett Favre told WTMJ in 2019
Rodgers has gone on record saying that, similar to Love, he too has learned several things from Favre.
I learned a lot over those years working with Brett [Favre]. I will definitely take those lessons with me and like I said before, I’ve always had great relationships with my backups, and I always love helping those guys out in any way.Rodgers told NBC Sports in 2020
He was Favre’s backup for three years. After changing his mind, the Packers traded him to the New York Jets. Their relationship saw improvement when Rodgers attended Favre’s Hall of Fame ceremony in 2016.
