It’s a new era in Green Bay as young quarterback Jordan Love finally takes his place as the starting center for the Packers. They began their preseason training camp on Wednesday, but for Love, it was even more eventful as he had received an encouraging message from his predecessor, Aaron Rodgers.

While talking to the media after the practice, Love revealed what Aaron Rodgers had texted him a day earlier. “Just be yourself. Have fun. Enjoy it,” the 24-year-old said. He went into the day with renewed optimism after the thoughtful message from the veteran quarterback. However, this is not the first time Rodgers has cheered on his former understudy. Just after he was traded to the New York Jets in April, the 39-year-old not only wished Love the best of luck but also said he would be there for him always.

It’s not something new for the 10-time Pro Bowler, as he himself played backup to Brett Favre when he first signed for the Packers. Naturally, he has experience with how much pressure a young player feels.“We talked about how it was for him (Rodgers)—obviously Brett leaving and things like that,” Love spoke with ESPN. “He said it was hard as well. But he put his head down and worked. Made his own name. I’m trying to do right now for myself.”

It was an up-and-down first session of training for Love yesterday. He made some memorable passes but also missed a few. For example, his accurate pass to Samori Toure for a first down was something even Rodgers would have been proud of. But missed deep balls for Christian Watson and Luke Musgrave were something he should work on. Love completed 7 out of 15 attempted passes.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur believes that Jordan Love has complete command of the offense

While the missed passes did bug Love during the team’s first practice session, he is not too bothered about them. “It takes time to be perfect on the deep ball,” Love said. “One thing I felt was that those throws I missed were maybe a little bit short. But you can never make excuses for that.”

His coach, Matt LaFleur, looked satisfied with Love’s first day. When the media asked him about whether Jordan would play most of the matches, he replied, “Potentially.” LaFleur continued, “It’s going to be fluid, and we’ll adjust accordingly.”

The Packers coach is confident that after three years as Aaron Rodgers’ backup, Love is ready to command “our offense; there’s no doubt about it.” He has chosen to keep his faith in the 2020 first-round draft pick
