Jordan Poyer is currently one of the best defensive players in the league. On the field, he wreaks havoc on the Buffalo Bills‘ secondary unit and is a big problem for the opposing offensive units. But, off the field, he has been through some real struggles with alcoholism. Recently, he opened up about his struggles while also crediting Aaron Rodgers for inspiring him to try Ayahuasca, which changed him into a new man.
During a recent appearance on Robert Griffin III’s podcast RG3 and The Ones presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment, the Bills’ former All-Pro defensive back said he got inspired to try Ayahuasca after the New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers endorsed it in The Pat McAfee Show.

Aaron Rodgers opened me up to plant medicine with ayahuasca. ... I was very curious when he announced it and when he started talking about it on the Pat McAfee Show, and so I started researching it.Poyer said on RG3 and The Ones.
The Jets QB Aaron Rodgers hasn’t shied away from talking about using alternative medicines and Psychedelic drugs. In September 2022, Rodgers openly endorsed Ayahuasca and talked about how it benefited him. Seeing that, Poyer got inspired to try it.
A lot of people wrote him off. A lot of people think he’s crazy. A lot think he’s just off the wire, but I was interested, so I went.
Jordan Poyer says Ayahuasca helped him after he quit drinking
On Robert Griffin’s podcast, Poyer revealed that he and his wife Rachel Bush‘s cousin went on a trip to Costa Rica where they took Ayahuasca as a part of several ceremonies. The Bills defensive back claimed he was struggling with alcoholism and hit a new low earlier this year.

He then talked about how he went to counseling and had conversations with people that helped him quit alcohol. Poyer further said that Ayahuasca helped him find who he was after quitting his drinking habit.
Quitting drinking saved my life. Ayahuasca [just] helped me [find] who I was.
As his experience with the Psychedelic has been good so far, Poyer is planning to return to the retreat again with some of his family members and even his teammates.
On the sporting side of things, Jordan Poyer — who signed a 2-year deal with the Bills in the off-season — continues to be a major part of the Bills defense. Poyer and the Bills will next square off against the Cincinnati Bengals in their week 9 matchup on Sunday.
