Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes‘ recent outburst in a Sunday Night Football Game has caught quite the attention of the industry. Though the quarterback has publicly apologized for his actions, he is still under NFL investigation.
Notably, a major reason for Mahomes’ outburst was the intense rivalry with the Buffalo Bills‘ quarterback Josh Allen, which he acknowledges very well. As the two were caught on camera postgame, Mahomes was seen interacting with Allen.
Wildest f***ing call I’ve ever seen. Offensive offsides on that play, man? F***ing terrible. He said while shaking hands
Of course, Mahomes was referring to the penalty called upon receiver Kadarius Toney that ruled out his game-winning 49-yard touchdown in the final two minutes of the game. However, he came out quite aggressively towards the Bills’ quarterback, Allen, which he deeply regretted.
In the Buffalo Bills press conference after the week 15 practice session on Wednesday, Allen was asked about Mahomes reaching out to him after his meltdown in Sunday’s game.
He reached out to me. I’m just like, ‘It’s football; it’s a game of emotion.’ I know he didn’t mean anything by it.To which, quarterback Allen replied
It seemed like Allen wasn’t holding onto any grudges towards Mahomes, as he emphasized that the camera only caught the last few seconds and he understood where the quarterback’s emotions came from, though he called Mahomes an “ultimate competitor.”
I know the cameras kind of caught the last few seconds of what we were talking about. He’s an ultimate competitor. He wants to win. That’s why he is who he is.He said
Patrick Mahomes’ regretful apology towards Josh Allen
After the meltdown from losing the game and Toney’s offside penalty, Mahomes realized his mistake and took responsibility for his action when he offered a public apology during his weekly radio show on Monday.
The quarterback accepted his mistake and said he shouldn’t have acted in that manner. He expressed his love for the game and his teammates.
In the list of people whom Mahomes’ was apologetic towards, he also mentioned Bills’ quarterback Allen.
Definitely emotion talking when I was talking to Josh at midfield. To lose the football game, a tough football game, in a tough way. But I let it go on too long. He had nothing to do with it. Just show better sportsmanship and tell him great game and kind of keep it moving. He said
Mahomes was particularly regretful for his interaction with Allen postgame. This is why he called him to offer his apology and shared, “We’re good now,” but he didn’t share their conversation.
