Josh Allen arguably had the worst game of the 2023 season against the Denver Broncos. How bad? Well, he started with a turnover on the first pass. And it did not end there, as several more followed throughout the night.
Allen has constantly been considered one of the elite quarterbacks since he entered the NFL in 2008. Barring his rookie year, he has had a winning season for the last four seasons and featured in the postseason, taking the Bills to two divisional finals.
The 27-year-old is currently second in completing touchdowns, throwing 157 since 2019. His style of play is very dynamic; throwing deep passes with relative ease at regular intervals makes him stand out from the bunch. Not only that, he can run with the ball very well. Allen has had 45 rushing touchdowns in his career.
However, he wanted to make changes to the way he plays. In an interview with CBS during the offseason, the two-time Pro Bowler revealed that he was getting old and would prefer using his legs less and less in the future. But that means his efficiency in throwing accurate passes needs to cover for that.
He is still using his feet often when the chance arrives, and he has already equaled last season’s rushing TD tally (7). But he is trying not to make too many runs and has found the end zone 19 times, but with consequences.
During the latest game against the Denver Broncos, it showed up as he was picked off twice in the first half. That was Josh Allen’s 10th and 11th interceptions of the season.
Social media mocked Josh Allen for being a turnover machine
The night began with Allen throwing a turnover on the first pass. Broncos cornerback Ja’Quan McMillan snatched the ball away from Buffalo Bills running back James Cook. This won’t be the first time these two will be in Denver, gaining possession. In the fourth quarter, Cook dropped a simple handover from his quarterback, and the drive ended.

However, those were harmless cogs in a bigger, more problematic wheel. In the first quarter, on the 8-minute mark, Allen’s pass was intercepted by Denver’s Justin Simmons. Then, in the next quarter, he threw one straight to the corner Fabian Moreau. This took his tally to 71 interceptions since his pro career began. That’s the most by any quarterback in that duration.
Josh Allen also leads the league with 14 turnovers, going past Patriots Mac Jones, who has 12. At the post-game press conference, he was asked about the time running out on the Bills, as the loss meant they were now 5-5 in a loaded AFC. He replied that they had been in sticky situations before and managed to get through when it mattered. They will now face AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, in the next game.
