Not long ago, the National Football League united as one to pray for Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin after he collapsed on the gridiron during their game against the Cincinnati Bengals. It turned out to be an unprecedented Monday night and Bills quarterback Josh Allen discussed how he and the other players came to terms with the incident, as the 25-year-old fought a life-and-death battle.
Speaking on the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast, Allen became emotional as he tried to recount that evening, when the game had come to a standstill after Damar Hamlin collided with Bengals WR, Tee Higgins. Seeing Hamlin receive treatment on the ground, Allen and the others waited anxiously not knowing what had actually happened to their teammate.
Here is what he had to say: “You never suspect that. What was going on? Sh*t that we were hearing from the training staff and the paramedics that were, you know, working on him, I mean, it’s just like, set in after about 45 seconds standing out there like what’s going on? Yeah, it was nuts. But an amazing effort by him and the staff, and I think that the community of Buffalo was fantastic. The NFL community came together momentarily and cheered for one purpose: the safety of Damar!”
Josh Allen praised the Bengals players for their cooperation in calling off the game following Damar Hamlin’s collapse
The Buffalo Bills quarterback heaped praise on the fans present in and outside the stadium, all of whom were united in praying for the safety of Hamlin. However, there was a much bigger decision left to be made after Hamlin was taken off the gridiron for further treatment at a local hospital.
The decision revolved around the continuation of the game, and Allen revealed that there were quite a number of players who wanted to take no further part in the game. Josh Allen also appreciated the Bengals’ players, who too understood the gravity of the situation and agreed that the game cannot be continued on the night.
“Let’s go in the locker room, let’s reconvene like there’s guys sitting on the bench that looked in the face of death right now … ultimately came to the decision,” Allen said. “If there’s one guy in this room that can’t play, we don’t play and obviously there’s more than one guy that was like, ‘No, I’m not not going out there.’ Alright, then nobody’s going out there.”
“As I started walking over there. They were walking to us saying the same thing… We’re not playing either. Like, I thought that was a pretty, pretty respectful thing for them to do which made it a lot easier for us to,” Allen said praising the Bengals players.
Josh Allen’s parents are Joel Allen and Lavonne Allen. He had earlier quashed conspiracy rumors about Hamlin making a speedy recovery after cameras caught a glimpse of the youngster attending the Bills’ AFC divisional playoffs against the Bengals. Since then, Damar Hamlin has gone on to make an inspirational recovery and is all set to play an integral part for the Bills in the upcoming 2023/24 season. Bills fans will hope to see the best version of both Allen and Hamlin as they look to end their wait for a maiden Super Bowl title. Meanwhile, the QB lives in a very lavish property. Josh Allen’s house is a $851,500 property located in Orchard Park, New York.
