The New England Patriots recently let go of both their backup QBs Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham, leaving only starter Mac Jones in the QB room. Theories of Tom Brady, the former New England QB, unretiring and coming back to Foxboro, were floating around. Brady re-retired earlier this year after a storied 23-year NFL career. Catching this fact, an ad campaign poked fun at Brady’s retirement drama.
Lays and Pepsi are using this ‘unretirement’ concept to their marketing advantage. They came out with an advertisement with Brady and former New England teammate Julian Edelman and mocked the idea of unretirement calling it ‘dumb’. The ad ended with Brady giving Edelman a cheeky smile, supposedly playing with the idea of coming back.
Now, the chips and soft drink companies have one upped their previous advertisement and have collaborated to come up with a commercial with some of the biggest stars for yester years. In their recent commercial, legends such Dan Marino, Randy Moss, Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice were seen contemplating the idea of coming back from retirement. The advertisement also had Buffalo Bills’ superstar QB Josh Allen, who posted the ad on his Instagram account with the caption saying “Great to see these guys suited up again!”
The advertisement hilariously depicts the struggles these legends might face if they decide to unretire today. Allen, at one point, asks for a selfie from Marino, who is lying down after getting hit. Rice, on the other hand, was seen asking for a senior discount for a can of Pepsi. It’s all hilarious.
Are the Bills and Josh Allen in prime position to lose their AFC East crown?
The Buffalo Bills have been at the top of their division for the past three seasons. They have been one of the best teams in the AFC and have one of the best QBs in the league in Josh Allen, but have failed to make the Championship games. Last season, they were the early favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, but they lost in the divisional round of the playoffs at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.
They are still a great team, but their division has gotten significantly better this season. The Miami Dolphins have one of the most explosive offenses in the league, and their QB Tua Tagovailoa will be expected to be healthy throughout the season. They also added one of the top DBs in the league in Jalen Ramsey.
The New York Jets added future Hall of Fame QB Aaron Rodgers as well as running back Dalvin Cook. They already have a great defense and with the addition of Rodgers, are strong contenders to take the division and the New England Patriots still have that Bill Belichick guy coaching them, so can’t count them out.
All these factors make the AFC East one of the best divisions in football and the Bills are in danger of losing their crown this season. They open their season against the New York Jets on September 11.
