On Thursday night, the Buffalo Bills — led by their star quarterback Josh Allen — went against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their week 8 game. During the game, an audible used by the Bills’ star signal-caller Allen has ignited a massive debate on social media. The debate is whether Allen used Taylor Swift‘s name or JR Smith‘s name as an audible.
During the first quarter of the game, the Bills were marching down the field in an attempt to register the first points of the game. The Bills were facing a 2nd down and 10 and that’s when Allen decided to use the audible in question. Allen seemingly yells the name of the global music superstar Taylor Swift multiple times as the audible.
Given the rumored relationship between Swift and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, using the name of the 12-time Grammy Award-winning artist makes sense. Even the official account of NFL on Prime Video posted the footage of Allen’s audible and wrote, “TAYLOR SWIFT, TAYLOR SWIFT, Josh Allen with a swift audible.”
But many people were convinced Allen was using the name of the former NBA superstar JR Smith. Later in the game, Allen also used the name of NBA legend and JR Smith’s former teammate LeBron James as an audible. This convinced the fans that Allen, indeed, used JR Smith’s name as the audible in the first quarter and not Swift’s name. Check out the footage of the audible in question attached below.
Josh Allen clarified the confusion over his audible on the TNF game
Following the week 8 Thursday Night Football game between the Bills and the Buccaneers, there was a raging debate on social media about whether the Pro Bowl QB Josh Allen used Taylor Swift’s name or JR Smith’s name as an audible.
Later, the Bills quarterback Allen cleared the confusion by confirming that he, indeed, used the former NBA superstar, JR Smith’s name, as the audible according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler.
But one cannot blame the people for mishearing JR Smith as Taylor Swift. Nonetheless, the Bills managed to secure a 24-18 victory against the Tampa Bay-based football team in a close game that came down to a failed Hail-Mary attempt by the Bucs as the clock ran out.
With that victory, Josh Allen and the Bills improved to a 5-3 record. Next, they are scheduled to face the Cincinnati Bengals in their week 9 matchup on Sunday. The Bills would look to make a statement by defeating the explosive Bengals team in a tough road game.
