The Green Bay Packers recently signed the former Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs to a massive 4-year deal. As many players are switching teams in free agency, fans have been bashing some of the players for not showing loyalty to their teams and taking a hometown discount.
Amidst this, the star running back Jacobs started a discourse about why the fans don’t question the franchises’ loyalty to players. Jacobs shared a story on his Instagram profile shortly after joining the Packers.
When a players leaves it’s always the player being unloyal at what point do we ask the franchises for that same loyalty?Josh Jacobs wrote on Instagram
The running back quickly deleted the story; however, there is no escaping the eyes of the internet. Many see Jacobs’ post as a shot at the Raiders organization, who failed to extend him on a long-term deal. However, it could be seen as a general question to all the franchises in the league.
Recently, Tiki Barber criticized the former New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley for signing with their rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency. However, not a lot of people questioned the Giants, who failed to re-sign him.
Players are always expected to show loyalty to the team and not the other way around. Many players get the axe from the team when they have to make tough business decisions. Recently, the Cincinnati Bengals were looking to release Joe Mixon, who took a pay cut last off-season. However, they managed to find a trade partner for him, instead of simply releasing him.
Nonetheless, Jacobs’ post certainly comes out of frustration that the Raiders failed to give him what he wanted. He will now play for the Green Bay-based football team for the next 4 years and will get paid top running back money while doing so.
Josh Jacobs signed a 4-year deal with the Packers
The Las Vegas Raiders failed to keep Josh Jacobs with their team. He later signed a massive 4-year deal worth $48 million with the Green Bay Packers.
Jacobs spent the last 5 seasons with the Raiders, registering 5,545 rushing yards and 46 rushing touchdowns. During his tenure, he registered 2 Pro Bowl seasons and was named to the first-team All-Pro squad one time.
His production saw a dip in 2023 due to some injuries. However, when he stayed healthy he managed to put up some good numbers. Now, he will look to replace Aaron Jones, who was released by the Packers ahead of the start of the new league year.
