The NFL offseason is in full frenzy. In just one day, the landscape of the league is looking significantly different.
The running back market has benefitted the most as the top free agents like Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, and Josh Jacobs have all been quickly snapped up by teams within no time. Out of all the running backs, Jacobs has signed the biggest contract.
The Las Vegas Raiders allowed the running back to seek other suitors, and the Green Bay Packers rushed to snap him up. The team has offered him a four-year contract worth $48 million. Jacobs gets a signing bonus of $12.5 million along with a base salary of $1.2 million as per the terms of this new contract.
Some of the other terms of his contract include a $600,000 off-season workout bonus and a half-a-million bonus for per-game active roster bonuses.
This brings the total earnings in his first year to $14.8 million in guarantees alone. The deal does not impact the cap space of the team as much because, from the second year onwards, there is no concept of guaranteed money as part of his contract.
Josh Jacobs is risking a lot by signing the contract with the Packers
The issue with his contract is that, in the long run, he will not be getting a lot of guarantees from it. 2024 will be a high-paying year for him, but in the subsequent years, it will be up to the discretion of the Packers. He is set to make $23 million over two years and $34.5 million over three years.
In light of signing Josh Jacobs, the Packers let Aaron Jones go. The deal will become official on Wednesday at 4 PM when players will be eligible to sign new contracts with their teams.
The Packers wasted no time in attempting to improvise their roster, as they agreed to terms with former Giants safety Xavier McKinney as well. The team’s intention to stick with Aaron Jones did not work out because the two sides could not reach a conclusive agreement.

Green Bay is looking to go after the missing pieces that cost the team an opportunity to make the NFC Conference Championship after its loss to the San Francisco 49ers this year. The team is going after veterans and players with proven records who can have an immediate impact on their roster. Josh Jacobs will be a key addition to their offense and is guaranteed to improve their rushing attack.
