On Sunday, the Detroit Lions, led by their star quarterback Jared Goff, suffered a defeat against the San Francisco 49ers in their NFC championship game. The Lions wide receiver Josh Reynolds had one of the worst nights of his life, eventually leading to them suffering a brutal loss.
In the decisive game, Reynolds dropped 2 passes at crucial times, turning the game in favor of the Niners. During the third quarter of the game, the Lions had a 10-point lead and were facing a 4th down and 2 from the Niners’ 28-yard line.
Instead of attempting a field goal, the Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell decided to go for it on 4th down. However, Jared Goff’s pass was dropped by Josh Reynolds on 4th and 2 and eventually, the Lions turned over the ball on downs. A crucial turning point in the game.
Furthermore, later in the game, the scores were tied at 24 points each and the Lions were facing a crucial 3rd down and 10 from their 25-yard line. Goff, who took the snap from the shotgun position, targeted a wide-open Reynolds in the middle of the field, but the wide receiver couldn’t complete the catch and the Lions had to settle for a punt.
If Reynolds had caught those two passes, it could’ve been completely a different game than what unfolded on Sunday. Despite heading into halftime with a 24-7 lead, the Lions collapsed hard in the second half and were outscored 27-7 by the 49ers. In the end, Brock Purdy and the Niners managed to secure a 34-31 victory over the Lions and sealed a spot in the Super Bowl.
As for the Detroit-based football team, due to the loss, they remain one of the only few teams that have never made it to the Super Bowl in the NFL.
