The Chicago Bears Justin Fields gamble continues to backfire in the new season as they lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If they don’t fix it quickly, the downward trajectory doesn’t appear to be coming to an end anytime soon.
In the fourth quarter, the Bears were trailing 17-20 when the officials sounded the two-minute warning. Fields had to gain at least 90 yards to keep his team in the game. The 24-year-old chose the wrong course of action and tossed the ball straight into the hands of Tampa defensive lineman Shaquil Barrett. He then scored an easily intercepted touchdown on the Bears’ side of the red zone to make it 27-17.
Despite his inability to complete the drive, Justin Fields believes that the play was set up to fail to begin with. “We practice two minutes a lot during the week,” Fields said after the game. “I was just gonna keep that same mindset and just try to drive the ball down the field to give our team a chance. Regarding play calls, you know, for Luke [Getsy] in that position, he went with his gut, but number seven [Shaquil Barrett] ended up making a good play, so yeah, it is what it is.”
It’s the same old story for second-year Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. After the first game, he set a target to get more out of his offense. However, that did not happen, and now they languish with two defeats on the board. If this keeps up, other players will start to become restless; no football player wants to have a 3–12 season.

Alex Brown is not happy with Justin Fields
Winning is a habit, and so is losing, but no one wants to be down in the dumps year after year. When Justin Fields was drafted by the Bears back in 2021, many, including retired defensive end Alex Brown, believed that “this is the kid.”
But two years and 22 defeats later, even he is fed up with the former Ohio State product. On NBC Sports Chicago’s “Football Aftershow,” Brown shared that Fields needs to start producing the goods; otherwise, the Bears need to move on.

I’m looking at what draft picks you’ve got next year,” he said. “Justin has to play better. If not, this is it for him. This has to be the last year for him here.”
The three-time All-Sec who spent eight years with the Bears claimed fans were hoping Fields would take the next step this season. “It’s really sad because we were looking forward to him taking that next step,” Brown revealed.
One of the main reasons Chicago selected Fields was his ability to run. So far, that hasn’t happened, which is very concerning. “He has taken away what he’s really good at,” the 44-year-old continued. “He’s taken that away by trying to sit in the pocket. We don’t have time for that. That is a problem.”
Justin Fields, in two games this year, completed 40 out of 66 passes for 427 yards, with just two touchdowns and three interceptions. The most concerning part is that he has already been sacked 10 times and fumbled three times, which cost the Bears 69 yards. Their next destination is Arrowhead, where they will face the Kansas City Chiefs on September 24.
