The Chicago Bears‘ impending quarterback decision is one of the hottest topics going into the offseason. Whether they stick with Justin Fields or look elsewhere is still a matter of debate.
The Bears front office is actively discussing what their agenda regarding the quarterback spot will be going forward. Sports Illustrated Albert Breer wrote that they have gathered several times in the past few weeks, and a final announcement could be on the cards.
Amidst all the rumors circulating around the NFL, the most common word is that the Bears will look to trade Fields away before the OTAs. Afterward, they will use their No. 1 draft leverage to select Caleb Williams in 2024. Breer also added that the Bears received several trade offers from teams during the senior bowl looking for his services.
Meanwhile, an eagle-eyed fan noticed that Fields no longer follows the Bears on Instagram. Adding fuel to the already-lit fire.
An ESPN analyst makes the case for Justin Fields for the Cleveland Browns
Assuming that he was already following the page to begin with, this is certainly a massive development. It’s still a sensation at this point, but if he did follow it once and unfollowed it recently, then it could be an indication of things to come in the next few weeks.
Those who want Fields to play at Soldier Field can breathe a bit easier because he still follows the Bears on X (formerly Twitter). If his time in Chicago is really coming to an end, then, as the current trend is, the player will use social media as his method of announcing it.
When his path is all set for another destination, then ESPN’s Seth Walder believes that Justin Fields would be a good fit for the Cleveland Browns. While Walder concedes that it’s a left-field shout, it’s still in the realm of possibilities. He argues that the Fields being on a rookie contract would not cost them much besides a few second or third-round draft picks.
However, that deal depends on what happens to Deshaun Watson, who had another underwhelming season at the Dawg Pound. Despite serving an 11-game ban from the NFL for an alleged s*xual assault case, there’s a rumor that Waston could still receive further punishment.
If the NFL decides to ban him for more games, then the Browns will be shorthanded. PJ Walker‘s contact list will run out in the offseason. Dorian Thompson Robinson will be the only quarterback in the locker room.
Joe Flacco emerged as the Brown savior last season, leading the team to the playoffs. He bagged the Comeback Player of the Year award for his contributions. But the chances of another Flacco-like performance will be very difficult. So if the Bears go out and trade for Fields, then there will be assurance.
