Kadarius Toney‘s nightmare campaign continues. He once again dropped an easy pass from Patrick Mahomes at a crucial moment during the week 15 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots.
With less than 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter of the game, the Chiefs had a comfortable 17-point lead and were looking to put some more points on the board. They were facing a crucial 1st down and 10 from their 19-yard line. Mahomes, who took the snap from shotgun position, targeted Kadarius Toney on a quick slant.
But the Chiefs receiver ended up bobbling the ball, leading to an interception by the Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai. Even Mahomes, who has defended Toney previously, was fuming at the sidelines as a result of the costly mistake.
To add insult to the wound, the Patriots converted the interception into a touchdown swiftly and cut the Chiefs lead to 10 points with more than 8 minutes left in the game.
However, the Chiefs’ defense managed to hold the Patriots from scoring further points. As a result, the Chiefs ended up winning the game comfortably in the end. But, Toney’s mistake could’ve been costly and might have led to the third straight loss of the Kansas City-based football team.
This mistake comes just a week after, Toney cost the Chiefs their week 14 game against the Buffalo Bills. Toney lined up in the neutral zone during the final minutes of the game and referees called an offside penalty on him.
That penalty negated a Chiefs touchdown, leading to Mahomes having a meltdown after the game. This week, however, the Chiefs managed to win despite Kadarius Toney’s mistake and improved to a solid 9-5 record.
Social media reacts to Kadarius Toney’s mistake which lead to an interception
NFL fans on social media, especially the Chiefs fans, were furious with wide receiver Kadarius Toney, who dropped a pass from his quarterback, which turned into an interception during their week 15 game against the Patriots.
Fans demanded the Chiefs move from the former 1st round pick despite their poor depth in the wide receiver position. Check out some of the reactions attached below.
Nonetheless, Toney seems to have the support of his teammates and head coach Andy Reid despite his poor campaign. For now, he will stay with the Chiefs and will look to help them with a deep playoff run. But first, he and the Chiefs will be solely focused on their AFC West division rivals Las Vegas Raiders, who they are scheduled to face in their week 16 matchup.
