Last Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes became the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons. Mahomes had a meltdown after a penalty negated a Chiefs touchdown during their week 14 game against the Buffalo Bills, which eventually cost them the game.
The Chiefs quarterback sounded off on referees over the call. And now, among many people, ESPN personality Kevin Connors also bashed the All-Pro quarterback for being a sore loser.
During a recent episode of the ESPN show SportsCenter, host Kevin Connors brutally roasted Mahomes over his meltdown and also pointed out the hypocrisy of the Chiefs superstar.
Lost amidst the Mahomes meltdown and the cancelation of the legendary lateral is the inconvenient fact Kadarius Toney was then and is still offsides, provided we are enforcing rules and such. Which by the way seemed to be okay ten months ago in Glendale, in the Super Bowl, but who's counting the rings?Connors said on his show
Many, including the Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, admitted that Kadarius Toney indeed lined up in the neutral zone. However, the Chiefs quarterback Mahomes had a problem with referees doing their job and complained about them throwing a flag during the final minutes of the game.
And now, ESPN personality Kevin Connors was pointing out how Patrick Mahomes didn’t have a problem with the referee throwing up a flag in the crucial moment during the Super Bowl game between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Patrick Mahomes regretted his action the following day
The Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes’ meltdown, led to him receiving a massive backlash online. Many experts called out Mahomes for embarrassing himself over a correct call by a referee.
Following the scrutiny, Mahomes addressed the situation and said he regrets how he acted on the sidelines. He admitted to having set a bad example for kids and said he shouldn’t have yelled at the referees. But, the damage is already done. Mahomes would be branded as a poor sportsman because of his meltdown for years to come.
Nonetheless, Kadarius Toney’s mistake proved to be very costly for the Chiefs, as it negated what could’ve been a game-winning touchdown. In the end, the Chiefs suffered a brutal 20-17 loss against their rivals and fell to an 8-5 record in the ongoing season.
Now, Mahomes and the Chiefs would look to bounce back from the defeat by defeating the New England Patriots, who they are scheduled to face this Sunday in their week 15 matchup.
